Starting a magazine is a bit scary,

You want to come across the right way without stepping on anyone's toes

But you also want to be authentic and interesting to listen to.

I decided to start this blog/ magazine as a way to discuss current happenings, in my life and in the world. I'm Mel, a second year Literature student at SHU and I'm currently in the process of training to be a copy editor. And after I started interning at a magazine nearby (which introduced me to writing articles, not just editing) I found it quite enjoyable to just write and talk about goings-on around me, so I'm considering this to be a virtual diary of sorts.

I will be focusing on social commentaries, feminism, navigating 'adult life' (despite not feeling much like an 'adult'), and other topics that have been floating around my mind.

I chose the title 'Mind and Heart' for my blog as an ode to Winnifred Harper Cooley, one of the first self-proclaimed feminists in the early 90s.

Her book 'The New Womanhood' begins with whom she dedicated her novel to, her mother and husband. She says to them she dedicates this child of her "mind and heart", I find her work fascinating and I urge you to read her Dream of the 21st Century.

Hope you stick around!

M :)
